GTA are accredited to offer the 'latest' Victorian competencies for Traffic Control and Traffic Management courses which came into effect January 2007. These courses are written to the Road Management Act 2004, Worksite Safety-Traffic Management Code of Practice incorporating Australian Standard 1742:2, VicRoads requirements, WorkSafe Codes of Practice, and all legislative responsibilities in the Victorian Occupational Health & Safety Act 2004, and the Road Safety (Road Rules) Regulations 1999.

21783VIC Course in Traffic Control enables a successful applicant to:
  • Work on Victorian Roads
  • To be able to plan and establish a safe working environment through proper traffic management at work sites using principles of Victoria's Worksite Safety Traffic Management Code of Practice and the obligations under the Road Management Act 2004.
  • To be able to safely carry out the duties of a Traffic Controller at trafficked work sites. Traffic Controllers prepare for traffic control duties, address risks associated with traffic control, control and direct traffic with the stop-slow bat, communicate by radio and shut down aspects of the site related to traffic control
  • To identify and describe the appropriate use of various signs and devices used on trafficked worksites in Victoria in order to provide for the safety of both road workers and users alike.
Please Note: This competency is not sufficient for actual placement of signs, applicants will need to complete the following TrafficManagement course.
21784VIC Course in Implementing Worksite Traffic Management Plans
Prerequisite: Successful completion of 21783VIC Course in Traffic Control
  • Road Management Act 2004
  • Worksite Safety - Traffic Management Code of Practice incorporating Australian Standard 1742.3
  • VicRoads requirements
  • WorkSafe Codes of Practice and all legislative responsibilities in the Victorian Occupational Health & Safety Act 2004
  • Road Safety (Road Rules) Regs 1999
On completion of this course participants will be able to seek employment in the traffic control and management industry to set up, monitor and adjust traffic management schemes.
Refresher 21783VIC and 21784VIC Traffic Control & Traffic Management Workshops
For those with 'current' competencies that require updating after three years. GTA run both of these workshops on the one day to enable updating of both competencies. Please note, certain conditions apply. To determine eligibility, download the course outline and flowchart listed below.
