Boat Safety and Education Course

The recreational boat operator course has been designed to assist you in obtaining your “Recreational Boat Operators Licence and Jetski Licence”. On the completion of this course you should have the necessary skills and knowledge required to competently operate a small vessel in sheltered waters safely.

Courses are conducted at our premises, 12 Kingsley Close, Rowville VIC 3178, every Tuesday & Thursday night between 6pm – 10pm, and the first Saturday of every month from 8am – 12pm – numbers permitting.

  • Trip Preparation and Planning:
    • Maintenance of Vessel and Safety Equipment
    • Maintain the Mooring and Berthing Apparatus
    • Planning a Trip
  • Safely Operate a Small Mechanically Powered Vessel:
    • Vessel Maneuvering and Handling
    • Safe Navigation
    • Anchoring Procedures
  • Respond to Boating Emergencies and Incidents:
    • Use Safety Equipment
    • Raise Alarms
    • Deal with On-board Emergencies
    • Assist Others in Distress
  • Personal Water Craft (PWC):
    • Operators of PWC must obtain an endorsement on their licence in order to operate a personal water craft.

Course Outline:
At the conclusion of the 4 hour course you will have obtained a good workplace knowledge of boat & PWC safety and skills in operation. If you successfully pass your testing you will be issued with a Marine Safety Victoria Certificate in which you will need to take to VicRoads for issue of the licence. Please note that there is a licence fee payable to VicRoads for the issue of the boat licence.

Course: Marine Safety Victoria Recreational Boat Operator and Personal Water Craft (PWC).

Duration: 4 Hours.

Prerequisites: Restricted Licence: Must be over 12 and under 16 years of age.
Full Licence: Must be 16 years of age or over.

How to gain: Attend 4 hour Course at GTA Training Facility, and complete theory based assessment.
Note: Students need to bring a form of identification when attending this course.
Take your “Marine Safety Victoria” Certificate to VicRoads office and on payment of the licence fee, you will be issued the appropriate licence.
